I loved, loved, loved this book and the movie recently made (perfectly cast with Kerri Russell and JJ Field). I love the entire concept of this book and think it would be a grand success should someone actually run with the idea and build Austenland for real. Maybe Stephanie Meyer is the girl for that trick - she and her Twilight millions were the pushing force behind turning this 2007 sleeper book into a feature film. To put my own personal light on this review, yes, I do...

This book is a zinger! I enjoyed the first book in this series, Abby Cooper: Psychic Eye, but this second book had me sitting on the edge of my seat. I loved the ramped up intensity and how delicately Abby had to tip toe her way through all the plot twists. This book reads like a ride at a...

Life outside of the pages of Cress is like molasses - thick, slow and unimportant because once you open the cover of this book adventure takes hold of you like lightening. It flashes before you in unexpected places that make you gasp, blink with wonder and thrill for where it could possibly appear next! If like...

I knew this book would be good for two reasons. My 'reluctant reader' 10 year old daughter told me I 'had to, had to, HAD to' read it and it was rated in the top ten books of 2013 at Goodreads.com. Pun intended, the author's last name is a great one for his style of reading which 'grabs' you. This is an adventure novel with action that makes it hard to put down. In addition, there are mind-teaser puzzles you can pause reading to try and sleuth on your own before reading further and finding the answer. The other intelligent twist to it all is a...

Untold is my first truly Gothic horror/romance/suspense book and I have to say, it didn't disappoint. This is an intense ride from the get go and I was an eager reader for wherever the adventure took me on the next page. Having said that, I was under the impression that this 'sequel' to the first book, Unspoken, was going to tie it all together and be done. You can imagine my personal restraint when the book finished with a nail biting OH NO! WHAT HAPPENS NEXT?!! how dearly I wanted to chuck that book across the room for a satisfying smash against the wall. I could not fathom the...

My worry with a second book - when I've completely loved the first in a series - is that the author changes something. Let's face it, when you've been an obscure hopeful there is something fresh and new about your storytelling. After the success of a first novel you have a team of people helping you 'improve' and 'grow' as a writer. I tend to feel a bit disappointed in second novels, BUT NOT THIS ONE! :) I loved Elite as much, if not more than The Selection. Woo hoo! My reaction to these books reminds me a bit of...

Another Lauren Willig book in the Pink Carnation Series?  CHA CHING!  Yes please!  This book was published in August and by then, my eager fingers had been waiting almost a year for it.  The best authors are always worth the wait.

This book made me feel like a little girl/teenager again. Growing up, I LOVED princess stories. In fact, I wrote a princess story in grade two that made it into our school's year book. Princesses and happy endings were my bread and butter and The Selection was an entire loaf and stick of butter for me. It reminded me of why I loved those types of stories to begin with - struggling girl with a heart of gold who loves her family puts herself forth for the prince to marry to help their situation. She goes into it with preconceived notions and prejudices that get her in hot water and then slowly fizzle away until she realizes she is falling in love with the prince. What is NOT to love about that premise, people! Sigh, I couldn't...

This book was donated to our library and being a second copy, my boss asked if I would be interested in reading it. She knows I like historical fiction and boy, was this book right up my alley! I love it when a favourite book gets pulled off your shelves, is reread and loved just the same a second, third or, in this case, my fourth time reading it. There is much quality in a book that can be good beyond the first reading.

There are a myriad of reasons why I love the Mary Quinn Mystery series. First, I...

This book is a silky time out from life that demonstrates all the aspects I love about Historical Romances - especially those by famed author Amanda Quick. Beatrice is the strong, independent and intelligent female heroine who approaches all things with equal intuition and reasoning logic. She is no young miss at 34 and in the time period of the late 1800's she is a mature, bonafide spinster, which means we don't get hysterical, swooning debutants...
