Marketing is a tricky thing no matter the product. The marketing for this novel is to blame for a low rating on an author whom I usually love to bits. To fully explain we must go all the way back to Madeline Wickham. That was the name Sophie used when she first began writing paperback romance novels. A few years into this, she decided to use her real name because she was changing direction with her writing. She began to write comedy chick-lit romances and they were hilarious, awesome and much beloved by yours truly. Sophie's been writing her comedies for a while now and as a writer has decided to change course again. Not only does she change course, she jumps from adult into the young adult genre. In my opinion, Sophie needed to change her pen name again for this new direction. The problem with Sophie using her comedic author's name, AND advertising herself as...

I always drool and count down the days to any new book by Sophie Kinsella. Usually all the extra liquids and counting down of days is totally worth it. Usually. In this case, I was disappointed. It reminds me of a memorable disappointment that is still sharp from my school days. Without pointing any direct fingers I will only say it happened vaguely between grades 1-5. This was way before any smart boards or I-thing technology in classrooms. I remember being so excited because my teacher had set up a felt board in the front of the classroom. It had various blues for the sea and a couple of fishing boats. This was high tech in the 80's. The teacher...

I always look forward to another book by Sophie Kinsella and Wedding Night, though not tops in my rating system, did deliver some very satisfying bursts of laughter from me.  Sophie writes this entire novel from the perspective of Lottie, our honeymooner and her older sister Fliss, who is determined to make sure her little sister's wedding can be legally annulled.  It's a fun and furious kaleidoscope to switch from one sister's perspective to the other as one mishap follows another keeping the newly married couple apart.

How do I love thee? Let me say, THIS IS ONE OF MY FAVORITE BOOKS OF ALL TIME!!!! Sophie gets the most attention for her Shopaholic series, but on my shelves, it’s this book that sits on the velvet shelf. Can you keep a secret always makes me laugh – and I’ve read it four times. It’s juicy with comedic banter and the most embarrassing moments imaginable that keep happening to our main character over and over. Sophie is the queen of comedic romance. We’ve all been in embarrassing situations, but Emma’s story takes the cake. I love how...

I started reading this novel in the Day Surgery waiting area at a hospital while my father had hip surgery. Trust me when I say the sound in the room was quieter than silence and the general mood one of tired anxiousness. So when I burst out laughing numerous times...well...I’m just special that way I guess. Next to me with her knitting my mother just rolled her eyes...
