This book reminded me why I need to read. I took this book out from the library three weeks ahead of Thanksgiving. It was also time for the Elmvale Fall Fair ergo lots to do and the two weekends prior to all this my husband had planned a full Sat and Sunday in Toronto and then a birthday weekend getaway for our family. It ended up being more busy than usual for me and at night I'd read for a mere 2-5 minutes then fall into bed. Funny enough, as the weeks went by I...

Another Lauren Willig book in the Pink Carnation Series?  CHA CHING!  Yes please!  This book was published in August and by then, my eager fingers had been waiting almost a year for it.  The best authors are always worth the wait.

I was reluctant to write this review for one reason - it is not a smash hit. I've come to the conclusion that my personal reading and movie viewing tastes do not include any historical Britians in Africa type storyline. By far, this book is my absolute favorite in the entire Pink Carnation series. As to the why, well, let me crack my cranial knuckles and dive in, shall we? At every turn, this book tells a wonderful tale. Within every writing element the parts click together like a perfectly made puzzle. At it's conclusion, your step is lighter, your heart is happy, and perhaps like me you'll find yourself humming a merry tune over the mountain of dirty dishes that normally makes you grumble.

I have always and will always be a staunch supporter of Lauren’s works. She has the innate gift of writing great characters. They read like flesh and blood, your sister, your father – they are normal, real to us in our minds as we scan the pages. It is a wonderful thing to ‘escape’ inside Lauren’s characters and romp around France in the 1800’s while you snuff out Napoleon’s invasion plans for England right under his nose. We get all the benefits of a corset without the itch! Another item on the list of things I love about the Pink Carnation series is...
