Synopsis:

BOOK ONE: FRIDAY HARBOR SERIES. The Friday Harbor series of contemporary romance/women's fiction novels are set in San Juan Island just off of the Washington State Coast. The San Juan Island setting is romantic and varied, with rocky shores, sandy beaches, rich woodlands and pasture land, and the prosperous Friday Harbor area. The series is centered around the Nolan family, consisting of two brothers and a sister, the owners of an island vineyard and restaurant. The Nolans' mother Jessica has just passed away, and a mysterious stranger attends the funeral. He reveals that he is an illegitimate child Jessica had given birth to, and given up for adoption, before she married. This family secret leads to many new questions and challenge, which test the bonds of love and loyalty, and ultimately show the Nolans what family is all about.

Originally, I had picked up the second in this series to read and so, being the good little librarian I am, I opted instead to start at the beginning of the stories with Christmas Eve at Friday Harbor. This is a light, airy romance. It`s a perfectly nice, uncomplicated romance that flows with minor, soft turns to its happy conclusion.
If I were to compare this book to a style of painting, I would name it a watercolor. Sometimes in life you need an uncomplicated escape and if so, this is the book for you. I liked the injection of fun from the child character Holly. She was cute, endearing and never said No to her Uncle`s parental advice... a child like this does indeed exist - in fiction! And wouldn`t it be grand to imagine life could carry two perfectly compatible people together in response to a child`s letter to Santa for a Mom? A blissful, uplifting story if your heart is open.
Overall, being a smallish book, it does not demand much of your time to travel to the end. The next in the series is a bit bigger so I’m interested to see what and who this next one is about. I rated this book with 4 because honestly, from the title, I was expecting a Christmas story. The only Christmas season involved is the very last few pages which made me feel a wee bit cheated where my expectations of setting were concerned. But again, it’s a nice, light, feel good romance.
